Why does my PS3 not play PS2 games?
Why wont my PS3 play PS2 games? But it will play PS3 and PS1 games. It never freezes or crashes, so i don't know what the problem is.

If this is the newer PS3 ( slim current model or slim model before it that still had digital and analog outputs) it won't play PS2 games, even the older PS3's can have some issues with certain titles, but they do play PS2 games. there is a list of titles and issues on the web about this.
If you have an older non slim 1st or 2nd gen kind of PS3 it should play PS2 titles with out issues.
I might be wrong, im sure someone else will chime in that might know more then i do, I don't use the PS3 for much else then couple of games and mostly media center and blu ray.
I had only read about this kind of info about a year ago when researching which model PS3 i should get, since the older non slim models can run Linux but can have some problems ( not game related problems, other problems).
So slim model was my option and i didn't look up PS2 game info since i have no PS2 titles.

don't know about the slim, but only certain, more expensive, original versions, (maybe the 80g) played ps2 games.

The older fat 80GB Version with the media card reader, shiny "chrome" trim and 4 USBs is capable of playing PS2 + PS1 games. I was fortunate enough to get that model shortly after PS3s were released. I have since upgraded my HDD to 500GB and the unit has not had any issues to this date. *knocks on wood*
