Unable to do charging on my MacBook Pro 13" 2012 model, what's wrong?

My MacBook Pro 13" 2012 model was not able to do charging recently, I'm able to verify that the charger is in good condition. Here is what I found:

  1. It works with internal battery.
  2. No charging light when charger is connected, and of course it is not charging as well.
  3. Try to do PRAM reset, I'm just unable to enter into that mode (the laptop simply just do restart, so, PRAM reseting can not be done)
  4. Replace the power connector (the one used to connect the charger and logic board), same thing, nothing different.

  1. Can I conclude the logic board is bad in this case?

If the MagSafe cord LED is not lighting it’s more likely an issue with the charger and/or with the MacBook Pro Unibody 13" and 15" MagSafe DC-In Board

I would install this gem of an App CoconutBattery post a snapshot of the main window with the battery tab open so we can see more clearly what’s happening here.

Hi Dan, I firstly thought the issue might be with that DC-in board, however, I swapped the logic board with the 2011 model I have (other components including this DC-in are not changed), and everything works fine, so, not sure if it is limited to that 2012 logic board itself only? Any more thoughts?

@lovecd - I’m a bit confused here, did you replaced the main logic board or did you replace the DC-In board?

I think we really need to see what CoconutBattery tells us. Please post a snapshot of the main window with the battery tab opened.

@danj -- Replaced the logic board from 2012 to 2011, all other components are unchanged.

Have the initial issue described above when using 2012 logic board, and I thought it was due to the DC-in board. I don't have a second DC-in board to replace, so, just swapped the logic board with the 2011 one, then everything is working fine. So, I guess the problem is due to some failure on 2012 logic board, am I right on this?

@lovecd - Using the 2012 board with a half charged battery. Let’s get that CoconutBattery snapshot with the charger plugged in.

The issue is if the one wire comm connection is bad or the power feeds.

While it does appear the logic board is suspect digging a bit deeper we might have an easy fix.
