Lenovo Ideapad 3 14ITL05 Laptop Speakers Inoperative...

One day about a month ago, I opened the laptop as usual every morning, and opened spotify. To my surprise, my playlist was silent ... :(

I checked the basics, first making sure it wasnt muted, then ensuring the audio device was chosen correctly, made sure the device was active, reinstalled drivers direct from Lenovo, Reset the PC from factory, Ran the DISM Command to search for corrupted files, and even contacted Lenovo, who put me through the same process. We fully wiped the PC, and tried again with an agent. Still broken.

I was told by lenovo that they'd send an on-site repair to me for new speakers (I paid for the extra warranty). I received a call back a day later stating that they cancelled the on-site repair, and they'd like for me to reset my BIOS Firmware? (I was upset at this.. Why am I doing all of this to my laptop if I paid an extra $80.00 For a premium warranty?)

So, I elected to call them back due to the timing of the call. it was not a good time. But, so far its just been running in circles to work this out with them, and I am tired of dealing with it to the point that I just want to go ahead and fix it myself. I'm a mechanic and have a lot of experience in repairing Modules in vehicles, with them being circuit boards. So, I figure I could pop off a laptop case and swap out some speakers myself, but the problem is, I cannot find laptop speakers that I can be 100% certain in them being correct.

My main question is; Where in the hell can I find internal Dolby Audio Speakers for my Ideapad 3 14ITL05? (That number does not register anywhere... yet its in the About section of the Settings on the laptop itself...) Any other compatible replacement parts?

RESOLVED. COMMENT POSTED READS AS FOLLOWS:

@jayeff I'm sorry for my late response... I had gotten into contact with Lenovo, and after they gave me a whole month's worth of a run-a-round... they finally sent out a tech to install a new upper base panel on the laptop. The external sound works fine now, thankfully. I ran through all initial diagnostics steps for them, with proof of doing so, and they made me do it all again ... lol, also made me reinstall the BIOS software, reset the laptop to factory settings again, manually install drivers again etc.... did everything, it seems, at least 3 times before they authorized a repair technician to come out with a part. [crazy situation... since you'd think if a guy pays $80 for an enhanced warranty, that they'd be more than willing to take care of the problem, instead of telling me to take all these steps, yeah? but that's just a bit of banter about it.]

So it's resolved now, thankfully. Again, I'm sorry for the delay. I don't check this often at all

Hi @fordtechred

What is the model number or model name] (81X7 perhaps?) as shown on the product info label on the bottom of the laptop? (click on Using the printed label > Ideapad).

Is there audio heard when using the headphone jack, you never said?

If there's audio from the headphones then it may be a faulty IO board or IO board connection, as the main speakers are connected to it via a plug in cable and it is connected to the motherboard via a ribbon cable or even a faulty headphone jack, signalling the BIOS that there are headphones plugged in when there aren't any connected, thereby cutting off the main speakers. What setting is shown in Control panel > Sound > Playback, are the headphones or the speakers selected with the headphones not plugged in?

If it is determined that it is the main speakers that are the problem, they can be seen in the second image on p.43 of the hardware maintenance manual for the model you posted but they're not listed in the parts list.

You may have to open it up and check if there's any info on them that may help in finding a supplier.

Be aware that if you open the laptop to check things out, you may void any warranty that there is on the laptop and if the problem is not the speakers then it may cost you more than it should've

No, There is no audio playing from the headphone jack. If I listen very close, theres a cracking noise from the speakers, faintly. Also, headphone audio is a crackling and popping noise too, but it is clear to hear. And I have checked all of that already... Multiple times... Whether or not the control panel sees headphones or speakers. It has not had a problem with that. Windows seems to think the device is working properly. It's also the only selected and active audio device, unless I use bluetooth (Which does work btw).

Also, the model name is exactly as I said in the original post. Ideapad 3 14ITL05.

On the under side label, and on the "About" in settings.

@fordtechred

Crackling in the headphone jack could be a faulty jack which may also affect the main speakers. It may depend on how the audio is wired.

With some laptops the audio goes through headphone jack contacts to the main speakers and when the headphones are plugged in, the speakers are cut off and the audio goes to the headphones.

With others a contact in the headphone jack is operated which signals the audio controller to switch the audio over from the speakers to the headphones. You would need to have the schematics to know what configuration is being used.

Regarding the model number I was only suggesting where to look to confirm the model number, as you said in your question "...That number does not register anywhere... yet its in the About section of the Settings on the laptop itself...)"

As suggested then you will have to open the laptop and check for any problems regarding the speaker connections or the IO board cable connection and if they're OK hope that there's Lenovo part number information on the speakers themselves because as I said they're not shown in the parts list that I linked for the laptop model number that you posted.
