Replacing Front Panel on iPad 2. 3M Sticky Strips?

I'm about to replace the glass front panel on a friend's iPad 2. I'm all okay with this repair, but I'm a little unclear as to how to go about installing a new front panel. I see the 3M sticky strips sold everywhere when I'm shopping for a new front panel, but do you really have to use those? Am I supposed to use those? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

hello tommy,

To answer your question yes you do need the sticky strips because it is actually the only thing holding the ipad 2 together unlike its older brother the ipad 1 which has a combo of sticky stips and metal clips holding it together the ipad 2 is literally glued together. which also makes it a pain in the ^@# to take apart becaue you have to use lots of heat to get the glue to release. i hope this answered your question.

I have just replaced the front screen on an iPad2. I didn't use the supplied adhesive strip kit because I couldn't work out where all the individual bits went. I just used strips of double sided Sellotape. I just cut strips and stuck them all round the edge of the iPad body. Seems to have worked fine. Only problem is my wifi signal strength has dropped. The antenna is secured to the iPad case with a couple of screws and I damaged the tab which the screws go through so it is just secured with tape. Does anyone know if the antenna relies on the case for its signal strength?

you're right, just about any double sided sticky tape will work fine in this situation as long as it is strong enough for it to hold. and about the wifi antenna, i think you are going to have to replace that. when i took my ipad 2 apart to replace the digitizer i also ripped the antenna. i was going to just say screw it and reuse it, but when i looked closer it looks like the tabs which attach it to the back housing are actually grounding points. so yes the antenna does rely on the case for signal strength.
