Whats the best way to sell a damaged MacBook Pro?

Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 15" (08) Specs

Identifiers: Early 2008 - MB133LL/A - MacBookPro4,1 - A1260 - 2198

Hi all,

First of all, I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro 15"

-2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM

-Super Drive

Its in pretty good condition apart from the screen. Recently I noticed that a portion of the screen contained these horizontal red lines about a 1/3 of the way across. After some searching, and consulting friends, it was determined to be a bad LVDS cable / connection. However, without AppleCare I was reluctant to bring it in for repair.

As a temporary solution, I would just adjust my screen physically about the hinge. It seemed like it was working until one day the brackets on the hinge began to give way. Fast-forward a few weeks a trip to the Apple store, and I'm looking at a $500 bill to replace the display. At this point, Im more inclined to sell my machine for parts, and invest in a newer model. The machine still works, as I am currently typing on it, but the screen/hinge could give way at any point.

Everything else about the machine is in great condition and the HDD was recently replaced.

My question is:

Does anyone know the best route to take when selling a machine in the condition that mine is in? I've submitted a bid to this website to probe a possible value, however are there other channels that one might recommend (craigslist / ebay / etc.) ?

I appreciate any and all help. I need to act on this soon, as I use my machine for work.

Thank you.

I must have input the model wrong. My machine is the Macbook Pro unibody from late 2008. I don't know if that changes things, however the back panel of the screen seems to have broken from the hinge. Apple said that my entire screen/display would have to be replaced. Whether thats completely true, I don't know.

Before you sell it, think about repair. Here are the hinges: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/MacBook-...

Here's the cable: [produto vinculado ausente ou desativado: IF185-133]

You can do these repairs for under $150, just take it one step at a time and follow the guides. Should take you about an hour and a half for a good working machine.
