@chicken_butt Could you take some good, close up pictures of the battery compartment and update your question? Adding images to existing questions. The more information you provide, the easier we can help.
Have you had leaking batteries in there? The batteries themselves have nowhere near enough power to “burn”.

If you've already disassembled the controller, posting photos of the motherboard could be useful too. If there's no visible corrosion inside the battery compartment, the next place I'd look is closer at the main PCBs for any damage there.
