Device won't power on, or reboot.

The phone powered off randomly one night and would not turn on after being charged, and also would not reboot. I replaced the battery and and still having the same issue. There was some black powder (metal oxide?) around where the battery connects to the bottom of the battery try. I cleaned it out before installing the new battery.
