Identifieng motherboard component 220 | 6NF3E

Block Image

I was fiddling with the MacBook's mainboard, and accidentally damage one of the components. The one that has a marking "220 | 6NF3E | d"

I assume it's a diode of some sort, but that is the limit of my knowledge. Now I wonder what the proper replacement would be.

Thank you.

The large black three rectangular devices are tantalum capacitors you are referencing. I don't see any damage so I'm not sure thats your issue.

How about telling us a bit more here what happened, did you see spark or hear a pop sound or smell any smoke?

When you tried using the system what did it do and not do. The more you tell us the easier it is to help you.

The damaged one is not in the photo. it's simple mechanical damage. I was investigating the source of the short in the motherboard and accidentally ripped off the pad from the component while desoldering.

And yeah, the board still has a short somewhere. I just ran out of ideas on how to pinpoint it.

All small caps near the processor also shorted, so a assume it has something to do with VRM.

Okay after some tantalum rabbit hole exploration

220 - capacity (220μF)

d - 7343 case.

the rest - batch number of sorts

Those are probably custom components but reclaimed parts are somewhat available on Chinese marketplaces.

OK, so that explains the image is not the area of your damaged system. It would be helpful if you did offer the area so we can ID the area affected, which can let lead us to what's shorting out.

First i would snag the schematics and boardview drawings for your system do a google search for 820-00239 which is the logic boards number. Then you should be able to trace back the logic to isolate what has failed/shorted.

That info helped a lot. I googled the schematics, and that's C1191, 220uF 2V

I'll try to isolate the problem by myself (learning new stuff is always good), but probably will ask a separate question later.

And yeah, reading schematics is much more insightful, than just randomly desolder fragile components from the board. Who knew?
