Replaced water inlet valve on washer now it stopped mid cycle

I have a whirlpool top loader washer model #WTW5200VQ2. The cold water wasn't working so I bought the part and had my son follow a youtube video to replace the Washer Water Inlet Valve with Thermistor. It seemed to have solved the problem of the cold water, but now we washed a load and it is full of water and won't do anything else no matter how I adjust the cycle with the controls. Won't spin or anything.

I'm wondering if my son installed it incorrectly or broke something while replacing the part? He has a bad habit of compromising (things like thinking a missing screw doesn't make a difference etc.) I plan on making him take it back apart but wasn't sure where we should start to look for the new issue at?
