An hour after replacing my battery and screen with the iFixit LCD screen and battery, a circular spot started appearing. Has anyone seen this before?

Have you tried removing the display
As from the picture it looks like a pressure mark

It seems like a pressure mark (as you both advised). I decided to accept the mark, to avoid breaking the screen seal. But I wanted to thank you both again for your help @Duane and @hellomacos. It’s a wonderful community with you here 🙂

Sounds like a display issue. Especially if you've fitted the XS with an LCD rather than OLED.
Also check if anything is stuck behind the display.
A picture would help here.

Sorry about that Duane – I have uploaded images.
I should have taken a photo before removing the display, but I didn't notice anything protruding behind the display. Actually, I removed the FaceID and speaker components – so there are fewer wires in that area.
Luckily, this blotch has not expanded and is acceptable at this size. If it does expand, I will remove the screen again and take a photo.
