Why won't my iPhone XS boot or charge past red?

Iphone XS 64GB. I was using my phone when it shut down. I assume I used it til the battery died. I put it on charger and it started bootlooping and giving me to need to charge display. Whenever I plugged in the charger the display would switch to show it was charging so it was registering the charger, left it alone a couple hours-nothing changed same dead battery icon. I gently clean out the charging port with a toothpick and try again--same result. I try a wireless charger. Displays it needs to be plugged into charger, I place it on wireless charger it reverts to thin red line battery I leave it alone for a couple hours go back same red line battery icon. Tried all the button resets but could never get to any of them it just kept on flashing the apple logo and then dying. I get an ifixit battery replacement but in the process I damaged the screen so I couldn't tell if the battery fixed it or not. Had to replace screen. Replaced with ifixit display but before I sealed the phone I turned it on to see if it worked. Phone booted up I unlocked it got to my home screen everything seems fine. I notice my new battery is nearly dead. System gives me notification that it can't verify if the battery is apple but that was to be expected. No problems. I shut the phone down and finished sealing it up. Phones all sealed I try to turn it on-- bootloop. Bootloop and need to charge followed by me plugging it in the phone showing it recognizes it's being charged I leave it for hours come back and its still that thin red line low battery display. I tried a wireless charger left it alone for a couple hours go back same red line battery icon. If I try to turn it on it bootloops. I start thinking maybe my charger is too weak and the phone is trying to boot but I the charger isn't outputting enough to sustain it so it dies mid boot, the charger gives it enough juice to try again, it dies mid boot over and over. Or something like that. I go pick up a 20w Apple USB-c charger and an Apple USB-c to lightning adapter cable. I plug it in leave it a few hours and still nothing. Ive thrown everything I can think of at it and now I'm stumped. Almost $200 in and I still don't know what's wrong with this thing.

Hello Tobias,

I see you have fallen into a trap. For similar symptoms, it is worth starting with the replacement of the cable and restoring by the iTunes (at home). In the workshop, I do not recommend restoring the phone, but only an internal electronic investigation of the motherboard and accessories. Everything points to damage to the control electronics after charging the phone in the car (through an unauthorized 12V to 5V adapter). Often, such (Chinese) adapters are just a piece of plastic and a plate - without a gram of voltage-equalizing electronics. But to the point ...

The damage you're likely dealing with is a broken battery condition sensor line - that would explain the original problems. It happens when, after a fall or flooding, one of the communication channels between the drivers stops working. It stops for many reasons, ranging from mechanical breakage, chemical oxidation of contacts to high resistance. In the XS model, we have three mutually dependent control systems, two of which are inside the motherboard and one is in the charging tape. Another possibility, also probable, is a capacitor short-circuited due to an excessively high charging frequency or a high pulse, which has not been muted in time. This is mainly done by charging the phone from a damaged car installation (12V) or a damaged alternator. If you had asked before (before trying to repair) and described the problems you have noticed, I would advise you to buy and temporarily plug in an additional charging tape and check the communication protocol via your computer (mac or pc). I guess that would solve your problem. Now, in its condition, I recommend that you find a good repair shop (microelectronics) and have your phone's motherboard checked and repaired. You can still do the rest yourself (if you want to save money), after all, you already have it lots of spares :-)

but seriously, visit studionapraw.pl before starting work. Find out how to conveniently and without damage to disassemble the phone and (in the advanced section) what might have broken. Unfortunately I am writing this blog for my local community so you will have to use a translator. In case of any problems, write to me, I am always happy to help. e-mail can be found in the "about me" tab here, on iFixIt or on the blog (studionapraw.pl)
