iPhone 6s disabled after screen and battery replacement

Hi,

My iPhone 6S screen had stopped working so I decided to replace it, and while I was there I also wanted to replace the battery as that had stop holding charge.

I replaced the screen without issue, but on removal of the battery it pulled up and broke the volume control flex cable. I bought the phone second hand and it seems as though this might not be the first time the battery had been replaced as none of the guides to do the replacement really matched what I had to deal with, which ultimately lead to some prying.

Anyway, once I turned the phone back on I am greeted with the screen saying “iPhone is disabled connect to iTunes”. I believe this is because whilst my screen was broken it was still sending input to the phone (which was still on) and was continuously attempting and failing to sign in.

I do not have an iTunes back up and I can not currently use the power button because it is controlled by the now broken flex cable. At this point, I just want my data, I am happy to just buy another 6S.

If I connect the phone to iTunes without a backup, realistically is there going to be any way to retrieve my data or re-enable the phone?

If there is it might be worth me fixing the flex cable so that I can use the power button as right now only the Home button works.

Thanks.

If the phone is in a state of saying “Disabled - Connect to iTunes” with no “try again in X minutes” then at the moment there is no workaround for this that will allow you to get your data. It’s restore to factory settings, or leave the phone in this state until maybe some day, someone develops a fix for this.

It’s something I have seen time and time again on devices with broken screens where the touch input is going haywire, or is still responsive even if the screen has no image on it, so people cannot tell when it’s indicating they’re entering an incorrect passcode, or even that the display is on. It’s a big bummer, but not something that is presently fixable.

That's incredible. I'll either fix this phone or get another 6S or SE (I like having a headphone jack) but is there any way to disable it from happening in the future?

@dobson156 Not that I am aware of. It's a "security feature". To prevent someone else from getting into your phone by just brute forcing your pass code. Unfortunately, it often secures people out of their own data because of things like this.

Best thing I can recommend is doing regular backups.
