Power Button not working

Recently my MacBooks screen started glitching out and tracing windows when I would drag them around and would freeze up when trying to click on a window. I tried powering it off with the power button but got nothing. I eventually was able to turn it off by clicking the apple icon in the top left and guessing based on memory where the shutdown button would be in the apple drop-down menu. I successfully hit the invisible shut down button and tried to power it back up. It wouldn’t turn on. I plugged the MacBook in and it powered on because of the power source. Everything is running smoothly now, but the power button still isn’t working. I can’t hold the button to force shut it down, and I’m afraid to shut it down to try and see if the button works when powering it on. The touch bar works fine including Touch ID. I haven’t spilled anything on it or dropped it. Any ideas why this is happening? Could the power button have come disconnected inside the laptop?

While I don't think this is the issue I want to make sure.

I uploaded the picture of the battery info. I would like to add, I had my MacBook repaired by the genius bar in October of 2021 for a screen replacement. They replaced a couple of other things as well and maybe replaced my battery hence the manufacture date in the screenshot, although that wasn't mentioned on the repair invoice. Perhaps this power button issue is a result of that repair. I am reluctant to send it back to the genius bar since this could have been their fault to begin with and don't want to get smacked with another huge bill.

This may sound fairly rudimentary, but does the button itself actually feel like it’s being pressed? If you’re getting Touch ID, it may just be the part of the cable that sends power signals is torn. I have never actually dissected one of those enough to know which trace goes to what. But it may just be the button is askew, or there is debris in there preventing the button from pressing.

The way it works is there is a very small button on the back of the touch ID board. That presses into an equally small small raised “shim” in the top case. So it’s a very narrow window of margin for it to be set properly. I have also seen instances where the shim comes unadhered from the top case, so the button has nothing to depress into.

Checking this takes some doing, because you need to take the whole logic board out to have a look, but I would say it’s worth a go. And is certainly more reasonable that replacing the button, since you would have to also replace the logic board to maintain touch ID functionality.

Sorry for the delay on responding had a busy weekend

Sadly, I don’t have a good answer for you. The newer MacBook Pro’s have a TouchID sensor which is part of the power button. There is a fragile ribbon cable that leads down from it to the logic board. If this is damaged its the end of the button and in turn the logic board as well! The two are factory programed to each other and the button can’t be replaced on its own. You have no option here you need to visit an Apple Store to get the button replaced as only they have access to the needed tools (or will ship out your logic board to get it done)
