New MB Pro battery not recognized after successful use
Late 2013 15" MacBook Pro 11,3 (2.3Ghz Quad-Core i7, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2GB, 1TB OWC Aura Pro X2 PCIe drive)
Summary: New iFixit battery not detected, after successful installation and use.
My battery swelled (considerably, preventing use of the trackpad), so I replaced it with an iFixit battery a couple of weeks ago. This was uneventful, albeit nerve wracking, and incredibly rewarding. I used this opportunity to also replace the original 500 GB drive with an OWC 1TB drive (mentioned above). Building of the new drive, starting with a fresh install, then recovery of personal files using Time Machine was also uneventful. The laptop ran beautifully; everything was working.
I calibrated the new battery by fully charging, then discharging, as recommended. On the 2nd or 3rd cycle, I used the laptop on battery power alone, draining it down to approximately 40%, then placed it back on my desk (while on) to charge; lid closed.
After several days I noticed the MagSafe was amber, instead of green. I opened to find the laptop had shut down. I started and booted into MacOS with it plugged in, uneventfully, other than the battery icon was not present along the top and the battery information in the system report showing: Fully charged: no, Charging: No, Full charge Capacity: 0, Cycle count: 0. It obviously shuts off immediately when the external power is disconnected.
I did an SMC reset which did not resolve it followed by Apple Diagnostics which throws one problem: "Battery not detected, Reference code: PPT001"
Should I remove the case to see if the battery connection is loose? Could this be a replacement battery failure? I've read that the logic board could be an issue, but the install, post-install and usage was uneventful until about a week after installation.
