Yellows look more greenish on my LG TV.

This issue is kind of hard to explain but I’ll try my best.

I have a 43UN71006lb LG TV that I purchased last year. While it’s not the greatest 4K tv in the world it does the job. The only problem I’m having with it is yellows appear more “greenish yellow”The only way I can get yellows to look how they should is if I turn down the contrast but this darkens the screen too much. The issue is only really noticeable with bright yellows like the Simpson’s for example. The strange thing is if I leave a bright yellow screen on the tv for a few minutes, the tv will automatically adjust it from the greenish-yellow to the normal yellow it should be. I’ve gone through all the menus in my tv and turned off anything that auto adjusts the picture but the issue persists.

The issue is present in all picture modes. The ones I use are expert dark room or cinema for TV,and game mode for my PlayStation 5 with the issue being more noticeable in game mode with HDR enabled. If I’m playing a game, light sources like lanterns, fire, the sun at certain times of day etc will have a slight green tint to them.

Ive tried adjusting the red-green tint slider to be more red, but this doesn’t fix the issue. I’ve also tried using different picture modes like warm 1-3 with no luck either(I keep it on warm 2 anyway). I’ve fiddled with white balance a little but I guess you need proper calibration equipment for that stuff?

Ive factory reset the tv multiple times.

I’ve checked connections to external devices.

Used different HDMI ports and cables.

Does anyone have any ideas what I could do to possibly fix this issue or what could be causing it? Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, my question is as follow, I am connected to dish tv and I am watching a program and the screen turn solid yellow. I switched to the hopper and it still turns yellow. Is it my lg um6910puc or dish? How do I fix this issue?

@rayka

If it is yellow from the start, try connecting the TV to another signal source e.g. dvd player and check what the picture looks like.

If still yellow it is the TV if not it is the hopper/dish device or connection to the device.

Ben, I have the same problem. It is particularly noticeable during the super bowl with the Rams uniforms. It is a yellow-green in the center of the screen and a true yellow on the edges If you don’t notice it you don’t notice it. Once you are aware it is pretty obvious

John, I also noticed there was a problem with my LG OLED (OLED55B7A-U (LG OLED 55” purchased in 2017) during the playoffs (Packers green) and Super Bowl (Rams purple), I had the same yellow-green center of the screen issue. I played this YouTube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW10W0Wc...) in full screen on the TV and was shocked by the amount of yellow failure. I now need a new TV, it won't be an LG!

I have the same issue with my LG OLED 55” TV, It was supposed to be the top model back when I purchased it and had excellent reviews across the board. It is not an issue I had noticed even the entire first year I had the tv. Then it started being very obvious, mostly with graphics such as in ads and news… not so bad when watching a movie or tv series. I have to say that I have tried every possible adjustments and nothing I will do seems to fix that issue. Tbh, even my 15 years old LCD Samsung has a much better image than that LG TV. Just the blacks are very good on the LG OLED, but the rest is not up there at all. I am super disappointed and will probably never buy LG again. I will give this one away and buy a new one instead.

Hi @mash_man ,

Did you check if enabling/disabling the eye comfort mode makes any difference? Go to Settings > Picture > Additional Settings > Eye Comfort mode.

Have you checked if the TV has the latest software installed? Go to Settings > Support > Software update. According to this link there was a software update Ver.03.23.25 released on 13.07.2021. (scroll down to find Software and Firmware on the right side of the page)

How old is the TV? If it is still within the manufacturer’s warranty period, contact their customer service section in your location about the problem, just in case it is a hardware problem

Hi @jayeff Thanks for the reply!

Yep! eye comfort mode has been disabled and the latest software has been installed but unfortunately it didn’t make a difference.

The tv is just over a year old. I did contact LG a few months ago and explained the issue to them. After abit troubleshooting they passed the issue on to their engineers and said they would get back to me. The engineers asked me to send the tv in and they’ll take a look, but I said because of where I live it would be abit of a hassle to do so and I could be without a tv for months. so I decided to just live with it as its not really a massive issue.

Hi @mash_man ,

In the past I would have said that it may have been a problem with the LED backlights providing a slightly blue light instead of pure white thereby altering the colours somewhat regardless of the tint setting i.e. never pure white when all 3 main colours red, green and blue set to 100%, but your model is an OLED screen i.e. no backlights so I don't know.

If it wasn't this way when you first got it then it could be a problem with some component(s) drifting slightly in their set values i.e. hardware not software, which may be affecting the voltages applied to the pixels etc but this is only what I'm guessing and not what I know.

I would still contact LG again and ask for their tech representative and talk to them if possible just to make them aware of it. You never know others may also have contacted LG about this and perhaps there may be a software fix forthcoming or even a belated hardware one.

It’s abit of strange one. Every other colour looks fine from what I can tell it’s just yellow that looks off. I would of posted a picture with this post but my phone doesn’t show the issue we’ll enough.

I’ve done a lot of searching online and haven’t come across anyone that’s having similar problems so thought I’d post here. The only posts i find online are from OLED owners that have green patches on the screen when they have a complete yellow background.

Mine isn’t an OLED,which is guess is what you were meant to type? it’s direct LED and has an IPS panel.

I think the tv had this problem right out of the box but I just didn't notice it for the first couple of days.

I’ll contact LG again and see what they say but they’ll probably just ask me to send the tv in.

As I said it’s not a big issue so I can live with it until I can afford to get a much better upgrade,It’s just distracting.

Cheers!

@mash_man

I must have looked at the specs wrong as I thought it was OLED.

Do you know anyone or know of anywhere where you can view another same model TV to compare?

That way you'd know if it was a particular problem with the model or just your TV.

If the model then you would have more reason for LG to help you e.g. send an authorized LG repairer to you. A one off problem would not interest them that much I think

We have exactly the same issue.

I have the same TV and I have a solution for that. This was done for me by an LG technician.

Procedure: Go to the EZ-Adjust Menu with the software: ColorControl or a service remote control. But don't change anything there without knowing about it. Under no circumstances should you perform a Reset/ InStop (you will lose the warranty). I repeat: leave all menu items untouched. In the EZ-Adjust there is an option called "Sub B/C". open this The 2nd (bottom) option: Sub-Contrast is important. Set this from 128 to 0. Leave the top option at 128. Close the EZ menu with the Settings button to save.

The green tone from the yellow disappears.

Reason: LG uses different IPS panels for this TV. You (and I) have an IPS panel with the type name: BEO. This RGBW panel has a control problem. It is one of the few panels that cannot cope with the standard value of the LG software of 128 SubContrast. If you set the value to 0, you do not lose any image quality, only the control of certain pixels for the ContrastRatio changes.

Regards

I have this issue with my LG television. The model is (was) an LG 43UN71006LB. I purchased it in March 2021 and didn’t notice for a few weeks or even a month or two. I noticed the yolk of fried eggs was green on the edges. If a (presumably) yellow flame was shown, this was also green. The Simpsons also had a green hue and certain adverts where you know a logo is yellow, like the LIDL logo, look mucky.

I eventually complained under warranty and LG came and picked up the television and gave me a used replacement. Not sure if they are repairing my television and returning it - need to email them to find out. I have had the replacement five days. This replacement model is a webOS TV UJ634V. Whilst not as bad, this one also has a green hue on yellow pictures, although not quite as bad as the original television.

I am wondering whether to reject the television as it simply isn’t right and there is obviously an issue with the cheaper televisions that LG produce.

I ended up replacing the TV in my original post. Got a full refund and purchased a Samsung instead. I spoke to a tv repair shop and it’s apparently the cheap backlighting that LG use to cut costs that causes it. so no surprise your replacement had it also if that’s the case.

No tvs come perfectly calibrated. If you wanted your TV to have colors be as they should be, it needs to be calibrated with a colorimeter. I'm sure there's a professional in your area willing to do this. I've done it for every one of my TV's. Even high end TV's ($1,000+) need calibrating. Their colors still aren't spot on. Cheaper TV's are typically much worse out of the box, but all TV's need this. Most people don't know or care.

Your screen is burned in and the panel needs replacing. Same thing happened to me last year. If you look for a ‘red screen’ on YouTube it will display the burn in.

Yep Mike your right,

I checked my warranty which was due to run out in 2 months time, it was a 5 Year Warranty on my LG OLED.

My supplier - Curry’s UK turned up, took the TV away for 7 Days, returned it and told me they had replaced the panel.

Obviously a common fault as they must have the panels in stock to turn this problem of lacking yellow so quickly, but the set looks clean and sharp now once again.

Well done Curry’s fir your hassle free Warranty Repair!

A simple fix is a calibration. Cheap TV's don't do well out of the box. Even expensive TV's are not perfect out of the box and need calibrated. All of my TV's have been calibrated to be almost perfect.

The LG OLED panel was trashed after 5 years ... there is no simple fix. Panel has to be replaced. Don't buy OLED technology these screens burn in too easily even with screen savers. Even watching the certain news channel displaying an informational bar at the bottom in the same place over time it will eventually burn the screen,
