Replaced battery recently, but glue not sticking completely

Hi…

Replaced battery recently, but glue not sticking completely. I've opened the case up multiple times in the last month or so since I replaced it & have to constantly press down the battery to make sure it's in place. Often when I pick up my laptop can hear the battery shift inside too. Has anyone ever experienced t b is? Did I get a faulty replacement battery with not enough glue?!

I never liked the Apple method of glueing batteries in as the surfaces need to be spotless and free of any junk as well as oils. Then you have the issue of the uppercase frame being slightly warped from a blistered battery so it can be difficult to get the new battery to stick down. Basically a bad design choice!

Now you’ll need to start off cleaning the upper case area using GoofOff to remove all traces of the old adhesive. Then as is an oil you need to now remove the traces of it as well using reagent quality isopropyl alcohol 85% or better. Rubbing or cheap isopropyl alcohol has other stuff in it which can mess you up! Use paper towels to blot off the wet a few times so you are sure nothing is left.

OK, last step! Now you’ll need to repeat to get the old tape from the battery off using the same method and then get some wide 3M double stick sheets to replace the ones you have.

Whats important is not getting anything thick as the space is very limited. And you don’t want to touch the surfaces with your fingers.

I followed the step-by-step instructions provided by ifixit via their tutorial. Some of the extra steps you mentioned weren't part of that & the battery is already installed at this point.

@dickie2306 - I don't use the adhesive remover iFixit offers, nothing wrong with it, I just use something else.

Step36 does clearly state to clean off any remaining adhesive. I also have encountered some really messed-up uppercase frames from blistered batteries.

I understand what you are saying. Things are always a learning experience, but at this point I'd have to start over with a new replacement battery. I've reached out to the company to see what my options are so we'll see what happens.

Same problem. My solution so far is to install some self adhesive foam strips on the battery so the back plate applies slight constant pressure on it. We'll see how it works out.
