Why won’t my case light up or charge?

My airpod pro case hadn’t been lighting up for months which gave me no indication of it charging or not, but it was still usable and connecting. Then about a week ago, it wouldn’t connect automatically so I had to do it manually and now it refuses to connect at all. I’ve charged it and everything and it still won’t work. I’ve forgotten the device and tried to reconnect it but now it wouldn’t reconnect so I had to borrow a friends case to reconnect them. And it started working after that, for a little bit even with my case until it didn’t. And now they still won’t connect light up or charge.
