Where on logic board are the chops that control which keys are pressed

Hi, I have a 15" 2011 that surpringsly graphics haven't gone on it yet. The issue I am having is with a few keys on the keyboard. Initially I thought it was the keyboard itself but after changing the entire top case, the issue persist, which leads me to believe it's the actual board. Keys that dont work are Q,A,Z and backspace. The ribbon looks fine and I tried cleaning inside these connector on the board with 99%. Thoughts?

i think i found the problem. this burnt/singed part. directly on the other side is the connect for the keyboard. thank for quick replies. ifixit rules!

What does an external keyboard do? Either USB or BT.

an external works. so does the main one on the macbook. its only the 4 keys that dont work. Q,A,Z, backspace. Q A Z are all on the left side in a row. im assuming its a sensor

Your keyboard is laid out in a grid matrix like a spreadsheet! A bunch of rows and columns the two lines (X&Y) across is a switch point the mechanical key shorts across them. So in this case the 2nd column Fn1, 1, Q, A, Z.

So you’ll need to trace out the line as you clearly have a bad line (wire) either within the keyboard or the ribbon cable to the logic board connector. It’s been awhile since I’ve had to trace out a keyboard line as they rarely fail discreetly. More often the whole keyboard swap out fixes things. You might have a bad solder joint at the connector or the chip which decodes the signals for the internal USB circuit U5701 USB Controller.

You’ll need to snag the schematics and board view drawings for your logic board (820-3330) to reference things. Most likely you’ll need to get someone with the deeper skills and tools to replace the chip if you find that’s the issue, or just replace the logic board.
