Can A Shorted 8 Plus Proximity Flex Be Salvaged?

After a screen replacement on the 8 plus and shorting out the proximity flex by not putting the black sticker on correctly covering the gold plates, can I save the flex cable by re-alligning the black sticker, connecting it back to motherboard, would this then fix it or is my only answer buying a replacement proxy flex? Everything works apart from earpiece speaker

This is how much I covered the gold plates with the black sticker, it covered all the gold plates but still shorted. [image|2316387]

It depends, if the short didn’t damage the flex cable itself you can get away by just replacing the earpiece. If you notice after replacing the earpiece speaker that the earpiece speaker still isn’t working you’ll have to replace the flex cable.

You can re-use the tape that came with it or use something like Kapton tape to isolate the connections like described in the repair guide. Any short circuit can be fixed :-)

Great answer, thank you.

I'll need to be more careful with alignment of the black sticker.. It's frustrating how this was designed.

I agree, this sticker is really not the best design. If you're using something like kapton tape you could also put it on the ribbon itself to ensure it's 100% covering the contact points.
