Liquid damaged keyboard. Time for an upgrade

I’ve liquid damaged my system. It’s somewhat salvageable but I’d like an upgrade. I’ve successfully upgraded the HDD to 1 TB SSD. What’s the latest Macbook pro I can transfer the drive into?

Sorry you can’t install your 2.5” SSD into any newer MacBook Pro. The retina series 2012 ~ 2014 uses a newer blade type of SSD. And the 2016 onward systems now have soldered storage on the logic board.

The best you can do is get a case to hold your drive so you can leverage it in your newer system.

Frankly, if you like having the ports maybe you need to find another 2012 Unibody MacBook Pro! Or, look at fixing yours. Depending how wet your system got it might be not as painful as you think!

How about giving us a bit more detail on what happened and what you’ve done so far.

Update (01/23/2021)

You’ll need to replace the keyboard at least https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Mac/MacBook... flow this guide MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2012 Upper Case Replacement to get to it. And if you need a new track pad MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Trackpad

Thanks for the feedback. It’s a little bit weird TBH. Pretty sure the on/off button is gone. To get it to boot removing the mag2 charger and reattach will get a start. It’s dual boot MacOS and Win10. Under MacOS it seems fine. Keyboard works and that really got splashed. However booting into Win10 I have an external keyboard and I can login and use it but as soon as I touch the laptop keys, control seems to shift to the laptop keyboard external keyboard is completely disabled and only a few of the keys on the laptop work like arrow, shift, enter. It’s like the identity of the laptop keyboard device is gone. I’ve replaced the keyboard 3 times on its life so I’m happy to do it again. Obviously need a new on/off button. Might replace the trackpad too although it’s working quite well. Thoughts on why the KB works in one OS and not the other?

Well a keyboard replacement has gotten the system back up and running exactly as before. Thanks for the advice,
