How bad is a blown transistor/capacitor on the logic board

i accidentally caused a transistor or something to spark on the logic board of a macbook pro (A1708), it left a scorch mark on the component. i don’t have the part with me right now, but here’s an image of what looks to be the the same logic board model. the scorch mark was on the horizontal piece in the red circled area. The computer still seems to turn on though

That is a capacitor on the battery power rail. There are three other capacitors on that rail so at the moment everything should still function.

But since you bridged this component and there is a scorch mark I wouldn’t wait too long to replace it. If this component fails in the future it will send all the power to ground. Your device will no longer charge or run on the battery.

The capacitor you are after is 1UF 10% 25V X5R 603-1

i see, how long do you think it has? and i have no skill at soldering so how much do you think that would cost?

@ninja92 It could last forever but there is no way to be certain. If you haven’t any soldering skills it is best not to try and replace it. The cost to replace it will depend on who you take or send it to which could range between $30 to $250.

An honest repairer should only charge around $30 as this component can be replaced with hot tweezers without removing the logic board.
