I had this happen a long time ago but I think I fixed it by booting in safe mode then going into the windows folder/softwaredisribution/download. I deleted everything in that folder and then restarted the machine and it booted.

Hi,

If you have Win 10 installed try the following:

Turn off the laptop if on, by holding the power button until it shuts down.

When it has completely shut down, start the laptop.

When it boots into the Windows OS, force stop the laptop by holding the power button until it shuts down.

Do this 3 times in a row i.e. start > boot >force shutdown > start > boot > force shutdown etc.

On the 3rd attempt it should boot into the Windows Recovery Environment menus.

If it does, select Troubleshoot > Advanced > Startup repair and follow the prompts. Do not select Reset this PC because if you select the wrong option after this you can delete all your data as Windows will be re-installed.

If this doesn’t work for any reason, try repairing the Windows startup with a USB recovery disc.

A Win10 USB recovery disc can be created from any known working Win10 PC. All you need is an 8GB USB flashdrive and 40-60 minutes of time. In the host PC go to Control Panel > Recovery > Create a recovery disk. To get to Control Panel, click on the Windows Start button (left side of Taskbar) and type Control Panel in the search box and then click on the result.

When you have the recovery USB, start the laptop and get into BIOS (press F2 after the laptop starts but before it boots into Windows) and change the boot order to USB 1st boot device, also find the Legacy USB setting (or CSM - not sure re your laptop) and enable it. Save the changes, insert the USB into the laptop and restart the laptop.

When it starts it should boot from the USB into the WRE. If it does, select Troubleshoot > Advanced > Startup repair and follow the prompts. Do not select Reset this PC because if you select the wrong option after this you can delete all your data as Windows will be re-installed.
