What is wrong with my PS4?

Steps of what goes wrong when I try to boot it up.

  1. Turns on, light is blue.
  2. No connection on HDMI, no picture on TV.
  3. When putting discs in, nothing happens. Literally nothing. No sound. Nada.
  4. Cannot boot in safe mode as power button is broken, alongside the actual gold strip on motherboard being broken (touching that doesn’t power on).
  5. Attempting to boot in safe mode using controller plugged in, USB ports don’t appear to be responding.

I don’t even know where to begin. I sent this off with the original problem of no picture to be repaired, and it was returned because it ‘wouldn’t turn on’. The guy had clearly done work on the board and/or swapped it out for a completely dead board as I could see flux and different soldered points on the board.

Someone help? xD

P.s. Yes I know at this point it’s definitely worth launching it into the street, but I’m bored and wanna try fix it. Thanks!

So I tried the fix in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pszuueUT...

And it stopped the blue light, so I now have a solid white light on the console, however it still has 0 video connection and I think it’s back to the original problem.

What would my steps be from here? I believe its the IC chip that’s bad now.

Hi John,

Looks like your APU is dead. And you stated that your power button is broken too. I’m not sure if it’s worth to fix it.. Also because they already worked on the motherboard and you’re not sure what they did, perhaps they already messed it up.

What you can try is to perform the “reflow fix” but if you want to do it good, it’s better to reball it. But as I mentioned before, There is already soldered on the board and not sure if it’s unfixable and the power button is broken too..

I think it’s better to buy a new console OR replace the motherboard if you want to repair it anyway.

I'm not sure if a new motherboard would really be cost efficient especially if it's not the only thing broken. I'll have a look at doing what you said, thanks! :)

Nope, it's the most expensive part, I'm affraid.. And Ben is right, let's see what we're dealing with. So if you could upload some pictures, that would be cool. Thanks!

@dan0 done! thanks!

Hmm, do you mean the white lines? This could be there from factory. Flux is most of the time brown (from copper). And this is not close to the APU. Could you upload a picture of the APU?

por

@dan0 sorry i think the flash makes it look white, those smears are all definitely brown. None of the stuff was there before I sent it. Uploading pics of what I think the APU is now lol.

Take some photos of where the flux and the solder rework is.

I suspect the technician may have tried replacing the HDMI IC encoder chip and attempt a reflow of the graphics APU processor.

Doubt the board was swapped out.

For reflows generally you'd see brown flux around the main APU chip.

I will get it taken apart and take some pictures @benjamen50 ASAP.

I initially sent it off for the IC chip to be replaced, but he said he done -no- work to it. Which definitely is not the case.
