MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo Model A1150

Ok so here is my problem...

I replaced the dvd drive the top case with keyboard and outside top case. And now my mbp a1150 1.83 GHz wont start or make any noise at all just nothing. the magsafe light stays green always even with the battery on and the battery has a charge. I've check everything the ribbon cables for the track pad all are connected. the display is connected all screws are in place. I tried to short the pins on the logic board and nothing happens. I really need help ASAP this is my only laptop and is the one I use for my business. Any suggestions, tests are welcome.

Assuming the computer was working before you replaced the dvd drive and the topcase the next step would be to disconnect the dvd drive and see what happens when you try to turn on the computer. If this does not work and the topcase was connected when you tried to start the computer with the logic board pins remove the topcase and try again. Almost always when this kind of problem happens it has something to do with what you changed. Good luck.

The first thing that comes to mind is your keyboard to logic board connection. Make sure it's seated. Next reset the the SMC (power setting), here's how:

• Shut down the computer.

• Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.

• On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.

• Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

• Press the power button to turn on the computer. Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter doesn’t change states or temporarily turn-off when you reset the SMC.

Thanks for all the help. I hope we can figure this one out.

I'm thinking it maybe the I/O board. By any chance does the I/O board from a a1226 fit an a1150?

por

If i disconnect the I/O board from the logic board should the mag safe light light up? does that affect the battery in any way? I ask because when i do that theirs no voltage coming out of the battery to the logic board or at the power pins next the left fan

Was the machine working before you replaced the parts? What caused you to replace the previous topcase, and can you use it for testing to see if the new one is bad? You dont know if the new one is good unless youve seen it working with your own eyes. If the machine was working before you replaced parts, it's probably something you did that caused the problem (loose cable, etc.) and it's not likely a bad dc-in.

For the time being don't worry about the battery -- you have bigger problems, and connecting the battery will only cloud the issues. Disconnect the battery, optical, and hard drive. Until you have a computer that powers on, none of these parts matter. Verify all remaining connections. Try with one RAM slot empty, them with the other empty. Make sure to keep the computer open during testing to save time.

Thanks for your help. The mbp was working before all this happened. Tried what You said disconnected everything, checked cables, and tried switching the rams and still nothing I did found out that my keyboard ribbon cable is not working properly because it has no volts going to the power button. but i'm trying to power up bridging the pwr pins and nothing happens. The pins have voltage 3.3v

No more ideas!!! About to give up

Again, what caused you to replace your previous topcase, and can you test with that? I've never had much faith in relying on voltage readings as a means of troubleshooting hardware. I'd try another topcase, and I'd verify that the topcase connector on the topcase side is firmly seated. It's removable, so it's possible it's come loose. Also, don't just swap the RAM -- try one slot empty, and then the other slot empty. RAM slots go bad on lots of Apple laptops and cause all kinds of goofy issues. Also, what AC adapter are you using, 60W or 85W? For a Pro you should be using 85W. Certain machines will not power on with a 60W.

Ok sorry for the mess I made. I tried to short the pwr btn pins next to the left fan and the keyboard was disconected.
