Screen Flickering, then going dark

So, yesterday I was messing with my iPhone when, out of nowhere, the screen started flickering. After 2 seconds of that, the screen went dark. I turned it on, but instead of showing anything, only a dim and barely visible light background was visible. I still don't know what happened, but I hope it didn't "die", as I want to have that data, as I don't think I have any backups. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by you were messing with your phone? Were you trying to fix something internally or did you drop it? It sounds like the display has been damaged.

Oh no! When I say "messing" I mean "surfing through the internet". The flickering started with no reason at all. Well, yesterday's night was a pretty weird night as that night it was actually pretty hot, but all the other days and today it has been raining. I don't know if that could have been the reason.

I doubt it's dead. (assuming the phone is powered on) If you toggle the "Do not disturb" switch on the left side of the phone, it will make the phone vibrate. That's a simple way of telling if the rest of the phone is still operating.

There are several things that can cause your back light to malfunction. Have you had the screen replaced at any point?

Yeah, I also don't think it's dead. Every time I try to unlock it through the fingerprint scanner, as I've done a hard reset on the phone, it requires me to type in the password which, for obvious reasons, I can't type. So, when putting my finger, it vibrates as it is requesting me to type in the passcode, so it isn't dead, for sure.

The problem is that I don't want to lose my data. I have no backups whatsoever. Thats my main worry.

And no, I never had my screen replaced. I've had my iPhone for some time now (almost since it was released), and at the time it failed, no recent falling problems had occurred (that I'm aware of). It has fallen some times, but nothing that bad, and it never showed no performance downgrades.

I know you didn't ask for this info, I just felt like I should share it.

I have been wondering: Is there a way you can mirror my iPhone’s screen on my macbook without needing to trust the device? And if I turn on Voiceover on my iphone using siri and connect it to my macbook, can I get my macbook keyboard to control the voiceover cursor?

It sounds like you have a bad screen or have a problem with the back light circuit. You can hook it up to iTunes and back it up. It sounds like the phone is working just not the display. I would first try a hard reset and if that doesn't work I would try replacing the screen, make sure you unhook the battery before you change the screen. If that doesn't work you will need to take it to a shop for micrsoldering repair. I would recommend jessa at ipad rehab or Jason at sts telecom check with them and they can give you a price. They can do the repair without losing your data. So make sure that you check that they are capable of doing the repair. If they aren't capable they can damage it to the point that it can't be repaired, so check their references and reviews.

Sure, I’m going to take this to the repairs, my problem is that I don’t know how to back it up. I can’t type my passcode, first of all. And even if I managed to type it in, when hooking it up to my macbook, the “Trust This Device” appears and I can’t accept it.

Once I get everything backed up, I'm going to send it to the repairs. Your suggestion was really helpful though, thanks.

Most repair stores doesn't have to restore your data.

Just ask them not to and have them try with a new display and see if it works.
