Why two types of headsets has loud constant static?
Hi everyone, I bought a basic Uniden landline today and a Plantronics headset both from officeworks. Phone plugged in to modem router into phone port.
Phone works great. Clear sound.
When I plug the headset into the phone (unplug handset and connect it to headset) I get major static. I took the headset back, got the next level Plantronics headset. Got home same problem.
7 hours of life so far... Any ideas?

Hi,
What is the model number of the Uniden phone and the headset?
Since I don't know the phone usually a basic corded phone's handset has to be placed in the phone cradle so that the phone's switchhooks are operated to let the exchange equipment know that the phone is free and not in use.
If you replace the handset with a headset are the switchooks being operated on the phone or has the headset got an on/off switch at all?
If not then the exchange equipment will time out and release because it knows that it is no longer has to be used, because you hadn't dialed anything or there was no incoming call connected and you will end up with the noise as power to the phone is still being supplied by the modem.
If you press the switchhooks down and then release you should get dial tone IF the headset connections match the handset's connections when plugged in and you should be able to call out the one time until you "hang up" again.
The phone needs to be "hung up" to receive incoming calls.

Thanks jayeff, it's a dect 2145 Uniden. Headset is voyager legend cs. Instructions say to press button on headset then remove handset from cradle. Sound then comes to headset. Can hear dial tone but static is super loud unusable. Can dial out, speak and hear callers but the static is so loud.

I've added photos to the post. To answer your question better when I click the headset button it makes a click on the base station. Clicking switches the connection on and off. Next step it to remove headset from cradle. Dial tone and static.
There are settings a-g on underside some make louder static.

Hi ,
How is the headset connected to the phone?
If just using the "standard" desk phone have you set the configuration switch to A -G on the headset charging cradle as per user manual -p.8?
Does the static alter if you gently wiggle the connection in the phone's handset port?

Yes it is setup as standard phone, no additional accessories used. Tried setting the switch to A all the way through to G. I should state that the first headset I bought this morning did the same thing. It was the same brand but different model. I took it back and exchanged it for this one. Makes me think the phone is the problem though the fact that the handset has perfect sound makes no sense.
