Do I need to change settings to use DDR3L-1866 vs 1600?
I’ve noticed that you can buy either DDR3L 1866 or 1600 for a mid 2012 macbook pro. Do I need to change any settings (latency, etc) to make this work? My macbook says is is currently using DDR3L-1600. There is no difference in price between the two configurations.

No change to any settings. it should just work.
if you buy 1866 and put it where your computer can perform only at1600 then your computer will perform at 1600.
But warning: the reverse is not always true: Some computers may not be happy to accept new 1600 (if the system is designed for 1866).
