Exact details on putting power button back into place?

I've disassembled my iPhone 4 in an attempt to repair the only problem I've ever had with it; I had to push the power button increasingly harder to get it to 'click'. I figured some debris got in and gummed things up. Now that I have the power button bracket and power button removed, when I try and put them back together things don't seem right. I should have paid closer attention when doing this step. What is the purpose of the 'trapeze' attached to the button? If I put the button in with that facing towards the front of the phone, then put the power bracket over it, the button is still missing its 'springiness'. The actual electrical button on the bracket clicks just fine. It's almost as if I'm missing something... I've blown the photos up to original size and don't see what I'm missing... I'm never going to take apart something this delicate unless I can give 110% attention to the entire process.

Has anyone completed this repair that might have an insight? Thanks!!

You need to make sure the button bracket that swings is upwards. If the bracket is hanging all the way down the button is backwards. If it bracket only hangs about half way, and doesn't go down further you have the button the right way. Just make sure the bracket is all the way up and voila...springiness.

Doesn't work for me regardless of what way I put the button. The guide shows the bracket hanging all the way down and that was also the way the button was in my phone when opened it. I have tried it both ways. No springiness or any function of the button despite new button and new cable. Guess I just have to live with no power button.

Now I solved my problem. A few weeks ago I got a new power button - thinking this was the reason my power button wouldn't click. Changing the button didn't do anything so I bought the Power and Sensor cable and tried to fix my phone today. However still no "click" regardless of how I put the power button. I then got this idea to try with the old button that I had unnecessarily replaced... " and voila...springiness." Works great regardless of which way I put the power button.

So don't buy the power button to fix "no click". And if you did - don't use it, it's crap.

I had this issue and when I repaired the device I was still having issues. I just loosened the screws a tiny bit and it turns out that made the button work.

I have a rattle from the back of my iPhone which I have narrowed down to lateral movement from the "trapeze" attached to the power button.

The operation of the power switch is fine but the rattle is annoying.

Should the "trapeze" part of the button be loose and what function does it serve?

Thanks in advance
