well, im gonna go over everything again, i had no real problems, just getting the number3 ribbon in place, but now that you mention it, i did find it a little difficult to get the logicboard back into place aligned with the screws, but i never forced anything, today the phone started shutting down more and more and now it will not turn back on...

any problems during the reassembling?

are the screws on the bottom right side of the logicboard screwed all the way in (not that you should break anything!)

if the battery is seated well and the phone has this issues - i would put my old battery back in the phone and try it again - if the phone works - replace the new battery and contact the seller to get the new one replaced

I have the same issue. Really upsets me. I thought it was due to my reassembly but now I'm convinced it's a flip of the coin on if the phone accepts the battery.

My battery was dying like crazy. And I finally went and purchased a new one from eBay. Same APN as original. 616-0435. One wouldn't charge. Put Back original. It did.... But original won't hold charge. So I ordered a replacement.

This one would also not charge.

Put back original.

Now I ordered a 3rd 616-0435 and this one charges! Success so I thought... But now I started getting random reboots.

Now I ordered another APN:616-0431 or 0432... This one charges and works great. BUT it won't update firmware. I get an error 29. Very frustrating. So I'm stuck using this battery on 4.0... I can not upgrade to 4.2

So !$^@%#. Anyone can offer s solution to this issue?

Same problem here, and I got my battery from iFixit. It would restart pretty consistently every 5-7 minutes or so. So I re-opened it (my reassembly was fine with all connections in place), put the old battery back in, and it works fine now. So it definitely seems to be a problem with the software not liking the new battery. Thankfully my old battery is working ok for now. I was replacing a headphone jack and figured while I had it opened up I might as well put a new battery in since my old one should have several hundred cycles by now. But I guess I'll have to stick with my old battery for now.

Did anyone find a fix for this? I noticed Chritophes Deliens' remark about airplane mode as well...

I've got the same problem!

I have the same problem. Replaced my 3GS battery with a new iFixit 0435 and it continually reboots. Reinstalling the old battery has restored the phone to it's normal(marginal battery)operation.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

it's a common problem.. the problem seems to be with the ios not wanting to accept the replacement battery, ifixit works pretty hard to keep an eye the problem. i'd contact the after sales service team and see if they can help you.. click on the sales link at the bottom of this page.

My ifixit replacement 3GS battery only charges if I connect to the PC USB, but not from any of my apple wall chargers, my car charger or my iPhone dock (all worked fine before the battery change, so this is a battery issue!)

See pollytintop's comment above.

Having the same problem here with battery 616-0435 on my 3GS.

Original battery was 616-0434.

Although, I figured out everything was working 100% fine until I start using the "phone function".

meaning that without a SIM card installed or with a SIM card installed BUT in Airplane mode, the iPhone is working properly without shutting off.

Is it some kind of short-circuit inside the phone when it's using the "phone board"???

I'll try replacing with the original battery to see if it's a battery-related problem or if I just screwed up my phone :/

One more thing: if the phone is plugged in, there is absolutely no problem using the phone function, SIM card, etc. Odd!!!

I've got the same problem after installing a new battery from ifixit. I don't see a "sales link at the bottom of this page," as indicated above by pollytintop. I tried the links under "We sell parts," but don't see anything helpful there. I've sent an email to sales@ifixit.com. Is there on phone help or chat?

Thanks

Randy

I just had the same experience. After replacing what I thought might be a degenerating battery in my Iphone 3G, last night the phone wouldn't power up and when it did, I wasn't getting the unlock bar to move. After many attempts and resets, the unlock bar worked but the phone wouldn't stay powered up. After reading this and another forum, I suspected the problem was the replacement battery. So I rushed home and pulled the original out of the garbage before the trash collectors arrived. I put the old battery back in and the phone is working fine! The second install was a lot easier than the first. One bit of advice. The camera cable is a real bear to get back on. I finally realized that it is much easier to disconnect the screw that holds the bracket that holds the lens down, connect the cable, then fasten the lens down.

The old battery fixed it!!

Thank God! I am swetting like *$@$ here! Like the show off I was I told my girl friend that I'd fix her old battery on her 3Gs. Got the replacement battery from Ifixit. Pulled the Iphone appart. Used EXCESSIVE force to remove the old battery. Put the thing back together and tried to boot it. Noting happened. Then I used the wall charger and the phone came back online.

But now, no wifi, slow 3G and when I removed the usb from the Iphone it just shut down. I thought I had damaged the phone, and with my girl friend giving me the evil eye I paniced and ran all over the net to find the solution to this.

The solution? Insert the old battery! EVERYTHING worked.

The old battery had this number:

PGF374167AT 5GA33A5 2779NG1DB-06-130

The new battery had this number:

PGF374167AT 5C71805 2779JT1BB-17-195

So my issue was that the new battery just wasn't accepted.

Phew...... Got to mail Ifixit about this...

Same problem. My iPhone 3GS only work connected to wall charger but it's needs activation. If I disconect the USB, the iPhone shut off.

I'll return my old battery to iPhone and put new battery into trash.

My iphone 4 seemed like it wasn't holding a charge so I got one of these batteries plus all of the tools and magnifying glass. I did the replacement with great difficulty but one of the tiny screws was lost in the phone. The phone wouldn't work with the new battery. I threw the old battery into the garbage on garbage pickup day, got to work, and read that these new batteries don't work. I zoomed home and picked the old battery out of the garbage moments before it was picked up. I put the old battery back in, the missing screw magically turned up, and the phone worked again. I soon got an iphone 4s.

I got a variety of different problems after replacing my 3GS battery (iPhone 3GS, iOS 6.0.1). I was pretty close to trash it. But I found a way to get back to life and want to share the story. My conclusion is that is seems that the software (apps & iOS) is dependent on correct power management. With a battery replacement is that radically changed. First of all get a good replacement battery, no fake ones. You get what you pay.

After replacing the battery the indicator wasn’t correct but I could live with that. Resets (home button + sleep/off button for 10 sec) and restores via iTunes didn’t help. Then started the problems. After 2 days the phone began to shutdown using the camera/GPS or simply getting a call. Annoying, especially with a new battery.

I tried everything you can read on the net. Nothing worked, it just got worse. Cleaned every connector. Put the old battery back, didn’t work either. It was dead.

My final call was this: put in the new replacement battery and tighten all screws properly. Restore the phone from iTunes, but DO NOT, I repeat do not, restore the data from the backup from iTunes. Restore the iOS but when the iPhone reboots and iTunes will continue with coping of data (apps, calendars, music etc) ABORT that process. The data from your backup will corrupt your iPhone. Abort the process, unplug your phone and let it start up alone like a new phone. You need a clean start with a new battery.

This means that you need to download your apps again. I did that very carefully (perhaps too carefully, but I did want to know if any app corrupted my phone). I have now synchronized my calendar and contacts via iTunes but I have not restored any apps. It works flawlessly. The battery indicator is even back and correct!

I’ve got it all back: a working iPhone w/o shutdowns, a battery indicator and a new, fresh battery.

Good luck with your battery replacement. ;-)

Hey guys, I'm not a cell phone ninja, but I had the same problem.

I ordered the wrong battery. I Ordered a battery for a 3G. I needed a battery for 3GS.

My suggestion to you all is that you ensure that the numbers match up on the batteries voltage and milliamps per hour.
