Anita Babak there are several components that an cause your dryer not to start. It could be a faulty timer, thermal fuse, door switch, start button, or improper voltage. Start by testing the outlet first to make sure you are getting a full 240 volts. If you are not then, you will need to check your breakers. If you are, then you will need to test the internal components. There start with the thermal fuse, since it is the most common issue for a dryer and yours had shown signs of overheating already. The thermal fuse is located on the outside of the blower hosing. It is a small plastic part with two wires going to it. You need a multimeter and test for continuity. If you are getting continuity, then you will need to check the rest of the components.

I attached the tech sheet which should work for your dryer and will help you with the diagnostic and the repair of your dryer. ZB70972_W10156034A.vp

Solution 1:

Heating Element

The heating element warms the air before the air enters the dryer drum. If the element is partially shorted out, it may produce heat continuously, even if the dryer has reached the proper temperature. When this happens, the dryer gets too hot. To determine if the heating element is at fault, use a multimeter to test each terminal for continuity to the case. If the heating element has continuity to the case, it is shorted out. If the heating element is shorted out, replace it.

Where can I find the model number ?

On most Kenmore Elite dryers, the model number sticker is around the opening of the door. Open the dryer door and look around the outside of the door opening. Some dryers have the sticker on the bottom left or right side. Some dryers have the sticker on the top right side

Hi,

Check if the thermal fuse and thermal cut out fuse are both OK.

The thermal fuse if blown will prevent the dryer from starting and heating.

The thermal cut out fuse stops the dryer from overheating.

A faulty thermal cut out fuse would have allowed the heater to get too hot (which may have damaged the heater element -hopefully not) and caused the thermal fuse to blow, shutting off the power to the heater so as to prevent a possible fire
