iPhone 7 won't reliably connect to telco network

Phone connects sometimes but then loses connection. Sometimes a power down fixes it but at other times it doesn’t. Telstra Auatralia has “Telstra Wi-Fi Call” that saves the day but only when I can connect to a Wi-Fi network. Intermittent issues are a PAIN.

Fortunately my iphone 5s works still so I can swap the SIM and make a call if I need to.

I have done all the basic settings fixes.

Help would be most appreciated.

No it hasn't.

Most of the time it's a few loose solder balls under the baseband chip which controls the 3G / 4G network functions when that develops a loose connection to the board the signal keeps resetting resulting in drop outs like the phone has no reception.

Don't think it's worth fixing IMO the repair is $180 but in the long run it's better to just get another phone that isn't the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus and is newer as that model is rampant with Audio / Baseband chip related problems.

Backup ASAP as once these chips become more loose they will cause the phone to get stuck on the apple logo.

is the sim card relatively new or have you had it for a while. they do out date if they are old and can intermittently lose signal. people used to have this issue when I worked for telefonica o2 in the uk and replacing them for a new sim would fix the issue, especially in newer handsets capable of better connections.

The SIM card is about 5 years old. I’ll get a new one from my Telco. Thanks very much for your answer.

I am still trawling the net for possible solutions. One I came across yerterday was related to the celluar antenna. The chap replaced it and he regained connectivity.

That still leaves, I think, the internal modem as a possibility. I don’t know whether it is swapable.

Hi Jay,

I installed a new SIM card today. Connectivity was established but lost after about 2 hours.

I think I wiil try replacing the celluar antenna.

Any thoughts?

Internally, the antenna that connects to the network might be damaged from a hard fall or shock. You might check the antenna inside of the iphone. Best of luck, Apple Maniac.
