Intermittent RPM increasing but struggling to accelerate

I’ve noticed car is struggling to accelerate, usually at lower speeds. The gauge will jump up and then down. then I noticed today driving up an incline that my car was having difficulty accelerating past 40 mph and rpms we’re going up pretty high.

Any advice???
