ALS Backlit keyboard not working

When I retart the computer the keyboard will light for 30 secs or so then doesn't light up again.

Changing the software settings doesn't help.

Is there a ALS sensor available for this Mac

Powerbook G4 17 1.5 GHZ. Or would I need something else to get this working?
