I replaced the battery in an iPhone 6 that was given to me, and now it

Why does iPhone 6 have a 6 character passcode after battery replacement? The original passcode is 4 characters. I replaced the battery, then let it drain and when I powered it up again it has an entirely different 6 digit passcode. What’s up with that? The previous owner upgraded at a Verizon store to an iPhone 8. The Verizon store said they wiped the 6 clean, and then it was given to me. Battery replacement worked fine, but now it magically has some unknown 6 digit passcode.

Anyone have any insight?

This cannot happen after a battery replacement

The only way you can set the passcode is in settings to either 4 digit or a 6 digit

It has to be physically set by a human

You are also ask to set up a password when you bring up an new iPhone or after it was reset to factory settings

After I changed the battery, I didn’t power it back on for probably a month as it was an extra phone. When I did finally power it back on, it had restarted and wanted a 6 digit passcode.

I was able to force it into DFU mode, connect to I tunes and restore it to factory settings, and create a new passcode
