Can’t unlock iPhone despite putting correct passcode

Hello,

I recently replaced the screen on an iPhone 6 that was having touch issues. I was able to replace it just fine and worked perfectly except that I lost Touch ID functionality despite using the original home button and flex cable (I verified to make sure that the cable wasn’t damaged or anything). The following morning I was able to get on it and then after a while, I tried to get on it using the same passcode and it will not let me in. Interestingly enough, I kept trying and trying and the iPhone won’t disable its self as it normally would after a few incorrect tries. I have tried putting the device in DFU and Recovery mode but it will not work, it’s as if the home button does not completely work. Also, the home button does turn on the screen when the device is asleep, I have to press the side button for it to turn on and then I can use it. iTunes will not recognize it because I need to unlock it for it to trust my computer. I have tried different software but had no success. This is a friend’s device that I need to get repaired as soon as possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You may have two separate issues here.

First, focus on getting the Home Button to work. You may have damaged the HB itself or perhaps the Link Flex that runs underneath the heat shield. Carefully inspect the HB, connectors and Link Flex, as well as the receiving connector on the logic board. If the replacement phone came pre-populated with small parts and shield, consider using the original screen to see if things work properly.

The passcode issue is probably touch related and, once again, could be screen or logic board related seeing as how the 6 series are known to suffer from Touch Disease.

I have checked and reseated the cables several times and still does not work. I checked the connections and everything seems to be normal, no signs of any pins bent or broken cables. The Link flex cable and home button are the original ones. I've also tried moving the parts to the old (non-touch responsive) screen and I still keep getting the "Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone". What is interesting is that the home button does work fine when the screen is on and then a couple of seconds after it turns off, but I can't get it to go into recovery mode.
