Very slow charging with new battery

I have just replaced my battery with an iFixit battery and it charges at around 10 watts whereas as previously it would charge much faster. I have reset NVRAM and SMC and calibrated the battery.

Have I received a defective battery?

Update:

I have reset the SMC again after waiting for the battery to discharge completely and it is charging faster but the speed is steadily going down. At first it was 30 watts, it’s now at 21.

Update 2:

I have charged the battery to 100% and unplugged it and 5 mins after, the battery was down to 10 percent.

The “Design Capacity” is also dropping.

Let’s do an SMC reset How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac to make sure you don’t have a problem with it. Do a second CoconutBattery snapshot in four hours after the reset.

I have already done multiple SMC reset but I can do another I guess.

It's back to 9 watts now.

The adapter is the original Apple one and doesn't show any signs of defaults. I cleaned the connector but it made no difference.

But the bigger problem now is that even after charging the battery to 100%, after I unplugged the power adapter, it immediately jumped down to 10%.

The battery is obviously at fault and I'll request a replacement.

Ben I don't think you have a battery issue!

I'm suspecting your logic board has an issue as each post of CoconutBattery. Note the charging wattage 3.55 with a battery which is clearly in need of charging with only 20%! It moved up to 9.71 with 30.3% and then when it was very low we finally got the full charge rate of 21.6 watts when the battery is down to 9.7%

This is a sign the voltage comparator logic which controls the charge rate is not working properly. There is a micro controller within the battery its self which I have also seen have issues but it doesn't bounce around like yours is.

But would that account for the sudden drop in charge while unplugged?

I'm sure Ben ended up getting his logic board fixed as the charging logic within it was damaged. Here's a good vid that Louis Rossmann did that explains the issue Macbook not charging due to welded voltage regulator IC!

Hi, sorry for the late response. I have not brought my Macbook for repair, because I'm still weighing whether repairing an 8 year-old computer is worth it.

Hello, what is the definite answer for this problem? I am having the same issue since I have replaced my 2012 Macbook Pro retina’s battery a few days ago… this is very annoying
