"Bluetooth Not Available" intermittently - despite replacing card

I’ve got a Mid-2015 Retina Macbook Pro 15”.

It’s been great - but recently the Bluetooth Icon shows the wavey line and ‘Bluetooth Not Available’. Initially it was occasional and a restart brought Bluetooth back.

Recently it’s been days on end and the working status is more intermittent.

Last week I replaced the bluetooth/airport card per a guide on this site and it started working well for a few days.

Today the dreaded ‘Bluetooth Not Available’ appeared again.

I’ve done the SMC reset.

I’ve cleared the bluetooth plist files.

I don’t think there’s a software explanation but I’m running out of ideas.

Any pointers?

Solução escolhida

Just a follow up - in the end I took it to a genius bar who replaced the wifi/bluetooth card (I didn’t let on I’d already done so in case they refused to do anything more).

They also noticed my display was suffering delamination which was covered by an extended repair scheme so the display assembly (and the antenna cables) were replaced for the new design screen.

I picked it up Monday - worked initially but Bluetooth not available recurred yesterday.

It’s back with the technicians today who’ve found the actual issue to be a damaged connector on the i/o board cable connecting it to the logic board. They’re replaced this and are just testing the laptop over again but this sounds like they may have solved it.

On the plus side they refunded the bluetooth /airport card and this cable is about half the price.

Thanks for the pointers Dan.

@stek2009 - Happy it all worked out! I'm kicking my self as that would have been my second choice ;-} I'm surprised it took so long for the connection to fail from the time they worked on the system from before.

This series rarely has Bluetooth or WiFi issues with the AirPort board. More often I find the antenna lines damaged or the main logic board power rail has issues.

Did you at some point take the display or the logic board out for some reason?

Update (08/05/2019)

Review this guide MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Display Assembly Replacement jump to Step 7 making sure the cables are correctly routed across the fan, then review Step 9 and 11 as the wires enter into the hinge. If you see any damage you’ll want to replace the antenna assembly which is within the lids clutch cover. You’ll end up needing to take the display assembly off to get to it.

The display and assembly was replaced by Apple a couple of years ago - this problem is only in the last 3-4 months though.

Logic board is factory original and hasn't been serviced.

Would 'Bluetooth Not Available' be an expected symptom if the antenna was damaged? I would have guessed bluetooth would show available but not find anything...?

The antenna coax cable can be pinched if not properly placed and overtime fails. So each time you move the lid you slowly damage it.
