Whirlpool WDF310PAAS4 will not start and no lights either

I recently bought a house which came with a Whirlpool WDF310PAAS4 dishwasher. It has worked fine until tonight where I cannot get anything to happen. No sounds, no lights, nothing.

I read up on a faulty door switch so I opened the inner door and tested continuity through the switch (one probe to each wire pin and manually press the switch) and it's good. I can't seem to find a thermal fuse to test but that's my next guess. Beyond that I'm lost.

Hi @cpete ,

Obvious question, Is there power available to the dishwasher from the outlet - you didn't say?

You may wish to check the Hi Limit Thermostat to see if it is OK.

It not only cuts the power to the heater to prevent overheating but can also prevent the dishwasher from starting.

Here’s a link to the parts for the dishwasher. Select the Tub and Frame parts diagram and find part #15 to locate the thermostat

Thank you for the tip about the thermostat! I'll keep that in mind if it breaks in the future. Your initial question was on point, however. To my infinite shame, I didn't realize the dishwasher had a wall switch and it had been flipped off. My wife says I can blame her since she flipped it and forgot about doing so. C'est la vie.

Thank you for the tip about the thermostat! I'll keep that in mind if it breaks in the future. Your initial question was on point, however. To my infinite shame, I didn't realize the dishwasher had a wall switch and it had been flipped off. My wife says I can blame her since she flipped it and forgot about doing so. C'est la vie. — Chris

Solution 1:

Door Switch

The door switch prevents the dishwasher from running while the door is open. If the door switch is defective, the switch will prevent the dishwasher from running even when the door is closed. To determine if the door switch is at fault, use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. If the switch does not have continuity, replace it.

Solution 2:

Door Latch

The door latch ensures that the dishwasher door latches shut. If the door does not latch properly, the door switch might prevent the dishwasher from running. If the door latch is broken, replace it.

Solution 3:

Main Control Board

The main control board provides power to nearly every component of the dishwasher. If there is a problem with the main control board, it might not send voltage to the dishwasher, causing the dishwasher not to start. Control boards are often misdiagnosed—make sure you check more commonly defective parts before replacing the main control board.
