Is the keyboard connector replaceable?

MacBook Pro Retina 13” (Late 2013)(11,1)

2.4 GHz Core i5

My wife's built-in MBP keyboard has stopped working in a couple of areas. I performed an SMC and PRAM reset and it didn't help. Paired a bluetooth Apple keyboard, and it works just fine.

Keys not working on left side: F1, `, q, a, z

Keys not working on right side: F11, F12, delete

I’ve opened it up and can see no liquid damage. Upon disconnecting and reconnecting (reconnecting was difficult!) the keyboard connector, a few more keys became unusable. So I did it again and now it’s back to just the ones from before, leading me to believe there are some bad sockets in there.

Is this replaceable without welding? Edit: I may also attempt to replace just the cable, as that seems easier. I can’t see any issues with the connector itself, but the cable is questionable - the blue film around the connections is coming up in a spot.

@daviddoes

Yes, it is but will require soldering. If you have never soldered on a logicboard I’d let someone else do it. I am not convinced that this is a bad connector. I am with you on the cable or even the keyboard being the issue. You would have to let us know the exact model of your MBP for further help.

Thanks. Edited OP to show model.

Also, it appears you cannot get just the keyboard cable. I've only found Trackpad cables. It looks like in the past, Trackpad and keyboard cables used to be one cable.

@daviddoes Keyboard cable is part of the keyboard and can't be replaced on its own.

I see that now, @arbaman. Looks like iFixit doesn't sell these, nor have a guide. Suggestions?

por

@daviddoes You didn't find it, but the guide is here ;) However, I believe you're right about the keyboard availability, but you can find it elsewhere online without too much effort. Here's the guide, hope you don't get scared, it's quite a bit of work:

Thanks so much, @arbaman

I'm not worried about it too much. The only things I haven't done is remove the battery and replace keyboard (so many screws!), which looks easy enough as well. The most difficult will be putting everything back together.

Do you know what adhesive would be best for the battery? I'm thinking E6000, since I have some on-hand.
