Low boost clocks and high temps in Cinebench

I’ve got A1398 Late 2013 with 2.6ghz i7-4960HQ. Thermal paste apparently wasn’t swapped it’s entire life. In Cinebench it was reaching 95-100 degrees and 2,8 - 2,9 clocks. CB score - 540 or even lower.

I changed the paste with Cooler Master V1 IC Value. And got… 95-100 degrees and 3.0 boost clocks AT MAX. CB score 580 0_0

This model must give about 640! What the heck is that? I didn’t make any nooble mistake I bet, I did everything right. I even reapplied the paste to be sure it’s not my fault. Nothing changed, it works slower than it must and even gets hot while FF playing video.

What could be? Never stumbled upon anything like that

Lets get a better view on things here, install this app TG Pro its one of the better monitoring apps. Wen the system is idle take a snapshot of the main window, make sure you grow it so all of the sensors and fans are visible. The do a second snapshot capture just after running Cinebench. Post both here for us to see Adicionar imagens a uma pergunta já existente

OK, I think I see the issue. Note the heat pipe Outgoing Air sensors are very low in comparison to the CPU temps when you are stressing the system.

So the heatsink has failed! The coolant within the tube has leaked out. You’ll need to replace it. Keep in mind there is two versions of this system. The IG - Intergraded Graphics (Intel Iris) & DG - Dual Graphics (Intel Iris and AMD GeForce GPU. Make sure you get the correct heatsink.

The only way I know of to tell if yours is truly dead is to use a good weight scale that can measure the subtle difference of a wet Vs dry heatsink.

Oh God. Couldn't expect it may fail at all. Especially because it has absolutely no signs of possible damage ore any interference at all.

The first time I face such thing :I'm ordering a replacement, but are you sure no other issues may cause it?

por

The reason for two snapshots was to isolate the issue. I've replaced over six in the retina series.

Hi!

Finally I’ve got my new heatsink. And, you know… NOTHING CHANGED! Everything is the same, temps are high, clocks are low.

What’s the heck is wrong??

Applied liquid metal - no results. Even on highest fan speeds!

What I found out:

In Windows 10 it's FASTER THAN IT SHOULD BE! 665 CB instead of 640 intended. Probably, because of LM on CPU

But it still throttles way lower in ANY MacOS, Mojave nor High Sierra, with or without custom fan control, on automatic nor full fan blast.

I've ran ASD testing and everything is fine

What da heck?
