My iPhone fell in the pool

My iphone xs fell into the pool (with a case on) and now it is completely dead. Sometimes a green screen will appear but that’s it. I had to force restart it so I could power it off. It’s currently sitting in a bag with rice and DampRid. How can I fix my iphone??? I’m a broke college student with no AppleCare plus so I have no luck with anything involving a lot of money.

@angelsalas skip the rice. Using rice is about the same as doing nothing, it does not do anything. All it does is waste valuable time that you could have spend to properly decontaminate your phone!

The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart/sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using iPhone XS these guides. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G, all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken components. After a proper cleaning you can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Water damage is the most difficult pair. Any part may have failed and it will require a lot of work and troubleshooting. Even with all of this there is still a chance that your phone will never work again. A good microsolder specialist would be the person that can decontaminate the board properly as well as assist you with any repairs. Right now, everything will only be a guess, and the longer you wait the more corroded it will get. Hope this helps, good luck

The iPhone XS is “water resistant” was the battery low when you dropped it of so let it dry and charge it. sadly apple don’t not cover water damage. let it sit in rice for like a week. or bring it to a cell phone repair store like mobile repair but why am i even writing this? i’m a 14 year old i’m probably the only young kid that answers questions on i fix it. also my grammar is bad

Fixing Master time to eliminate the Rice myth. Rice does not work! Don't Put Your Device in Rice. Here's Why...

I agree, definitely do not use rice.

I learned that lesson the hard way.

I actually damaged my charging port because there were a couple of grains of rice stuck in it.

therefore invalidated the warranty.

After that, I started saving all of those little silica packets that come in vitamins and other things.

That saved my iPhone 6 two times.

Just make sure that you do not use the really tiny ones, because they can also get stuck in your phone.

I was able to remove those without any damage though.

The best advice I have is to just bite the bullet and pay for an OtterBox case.

well no need to worry the Iphone Xs has a rating of (IP 68) which means that it is water resistant upto 2 meters for 30 minutes. i would say that the battery had been drained out from the pool (which happens to most water resistant phones) and all you need to do is to charge it.

This is terrible advice. It's clear from the OP's comments that water got into their device, IP68 notwithstanding. Suggesting that they charge the phone will only cause more damage to the logic board. This phone needs to be opened up and properly decontaminated and then repaired if possible.

@marwanmmarwan why and how would " the battery had been drained out from the pool"? You do want to seriously rethink this answer!!!

Terrible advice same thing happened to me and First thing i did was charge it Where it possibly shocked and killed my iPhone do not charge it straight after as it may damage your iPhone even more
