Damaged ribbon, built-in trackpad option not showing in preferences

I replaced battery by myself yesterday, and I think I broke one of the ribbons, and then my built-in trackpad and keyboard can’t be used anymore

I can still use my macbook pro by using external magic keyboard and mouse, but it seems I can’t disable my trackpad, it keep connecting and disconnecting constantly.

I can disable my internal keyboard using 3rd party app Karabiner, but still can’t disable my built-in trackpad because the option is not visible (in my sytem preference)

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

My question:

  1. Can I replace the ribbon by myself? is it difficult? I came to the apple service yesterday but they won’t help, they said I have to change all (including the top case &keyboard) that’s insane and awfully expensive :(
  2. Is there any 3rd party app (like karabiner) to disable my built-in trackpad? alas, Karabiner can only disable my keyboard and not the trackpad.

Kindly help, thank you.

UPDATE:

I fixed my Mac, more detailed on this link: Battery not detected, high speed fan, but it turned on without charger

in summary:

  • I learnt that I’m not supposed to unplug any ribbon connector before unplugging the battery (that’s the reason why I damaged my battery)
  • I had to change trackpad flex ribbon and battery
  • calibrating the battery

Solução escolhida

If you wish to continue using your Mac with the external mouse you may just disconnect the trackpad cable from the logic board, that should prevent the system to try reconnecting to it and solve your problem.

Trackpad cable can be replaced too but it’s a bit troublesome..have a look at the trackpad replacement guide so you can decide for yourself it that’s something you’re willing to do by yourself:

Substituição do trackpad do MacBook Pro 13" com tela Retina de meados de 2014

I did it, but in my case, it doesn't work, when unplugged the ribbon, my mac constantly searching for trackpad/keyboard since they were 'unobserved' (saw it on Karabiner's log), and then my mac become very lagging, I plugged back in the ribbon, but now the battery not detected :( I did smc reset, but no change

Sounds like the battery got damaged somehow. Trackpad needs to be connected because there are temperature sensors on the trackpad / keyboard daughterboard.

If the sensors are not detected the MacBook will ramp its fan loud and throttle the speed of the macbook.

Thank you @benjamen50 , the battery is a brand new though, I still can power on my mac with only the battery without charger ( I sent another question Battery not detected, high speed fan, but it turned on without charger), is it possible that I damaged more of the trackpad ribbon? is it any connection between the trackpad ribbon and the battery being not detected somehow?
