Replaced battery and now touchscreen doesn't work

I was replacing the battery in an iphone 5s and after I finished the phone turned on fine, the screen showed the apple logo, but then when it went to the unlock screen I couldn’t type in the password. It doesn’t respond at all to touch anywhere. All of the buttons function fine. I opened it several times and double checked the connections and I even ordered a new screen but have the same problem. Any thoughts? Thanks!

As you mentioned in your comment, yes there are different sized screws for the plate. Personally I have always gotten lucky when I have put the wrong screws in the wrong place but I have been told that doing so can damage the device. It’s possible that’s what happened here. One other thing it could be is the new battery. I know that might sound crazy but Apple devices seem to do very odd things when they have a bad battery. Even though you got a new battery, sometimes you can get a bad one. If you still have the old battery I would try connecting it again and see if that fixes the problem. Also, check your connectors and make sure there are no bent pins or any particles on the contacts. If both fail, then it sadly means that you’ve probably done irreversible damage to the phone.

When you opened the phone you must have accidentally pulled the screen before disconnecting the ribbon cable your going to need to replace your screen.

I don't think that's the issue since I switched out the screen and had the same issue. I found out that maybe it's due to a long screw issue. I didn't know there were different screw lengths for the four around the screen connectors. If I used the long screw where it wasn't supposed to go it could have broken a lead on the motherboard. Do you think that could lead to a broken touchscreen?
