The optical drive sounds like a machine gun when I start my Imac. Is there a way to shut the optical drive off without removing everything ? ANy ideas what to do?

Sorry guy I don't think your optical drive is the issue here.
First, the optical drive doesn't start up right away its a bit more delayed in the POST process. This sounds more like a fan blade has failed and is hitting the fan case cowling.
Lets see if we can ID which fan needs service. Install this app TG Pro. You'll want to stretch out the main window so all of the sensors are visible, then take a snapshot of the main window and past it here for us to see Adicionar imagens a uma pergunta já existente.
You want to get the system warm so the fans run. If you get the full version it has a diagnostic service which should point out the defective fan.
If you’re sure it’s the optical drive, try just disconnecting the cable from the drive. Carefully pry the cable end off the back side of the drive there’s just enough room.
I would try to take the optical drive fully out following this guide iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Optical Drive Replacement If you are having a problem with a screw you’ll need to find a way to get it out.

Hi Dan, I have tested the fans, I was thinking as well that it is the fans, but no. I’ve tested them and everything seems to be fine. Then , I’ve tried putting a CD inside the drive, but I couldn’t. I felt the input jamming as the CD went inside, and i need to force it to get it out. After that; for one or two star ups, the noise was gone. It came back just after and now it is the same noise every time I am starting up the mac. The optical drive bracket is jammed. If there is a way to unable the optical drive, it will help a lot.
