Why my washer not powering on?

My Maytag washer not powering on. I checked the power outlet and it is working fine. I changed the electric control board and still it’s not working. What could be my plan of action ? How to check if my display panel working ?

Just had this happen to me. Ended up being the lock mechanism was not sending a signal to the main board. Froze up the entire UI.

How was that repaired?

Solução escolhida

Cause 1

Main Control Board

The main control board might be defective. However, the main control board is rarely at fault for this symptom. Before replacing the main control board, first check all of the more commonly defective parts.

Cause 2

Incoming Power Problem

The electrical outlet may not be getting power. To determine if the outlet is getting power, try plugging something else into the outlet. If the outlet is not getting power, check the home circuit breakers or fuses.

Cause 3

Power Cord

First ensure that power is getting to the electrical outlet. If the electrical outlet is receiving power, but the washer won’t start, the power cord might be defective. However, this is very rare. To determine if the power cord is defective, use a multimeter to test it for the cord for power. If the power cord is not getting power, replace it.

I've been trying to research why Maytag MVWB765FW won't start. It has power on back side of console there's a green LED so it's not the cord. I've read that it "could be" control console (the front panel w/touch buttons) or the main control board. Just don't know which it is.

This is what is going on with mine as well....less than 2 years old and they will not warranty it. Had to purchase new touch botton control board installed it and it will still not work. Green light is still blinking. Dont know what to do

por

I have the same problem as you with this mvwb765. I have power to the main board and a blinking light on the control board. But no display. The jumper to the display does have 5 volts dc powering it. Was getting ready to buy the display until i saw your comment. Did you find a solution yet?

Hello I have the same problem with my washer green LED is blinking but nothing happens when I turn the control knob or press the power button. Have you found a solution???

por

Same problem, will not turn on. I had the same problem last weekend, I called for service then it turned on so I canceled, now it won’t turn on again. Guess I’ll call service again

My problem was the same as some others, which was a slight amount of oxidation/build up on the 4 small copper pads next to the UI connector on the console side. A q-tip and some rubbing alcohol fixed it right up.

Same problem as everyone above, nothing on the user interface but green blinking LED in the control panel. I had been searching everywhere on the net for an answer. Tried the alcohol and cotton swab and it worked! As a single mom, didn't really want to pay the extra expense of a repairman or for a new control panel or user interface at $200-$300 each. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This was the solution to my problem.

por

Same problem as everyone else. Pulled the top off and cleaned the copper strips with a q tip and alcohol. Plugged it all back in and it worked. Thank you for your help!!

por

Wow!! That actually worked for me too. Holy crap ??

This ended up happening to me. UI board was frozen. Could power on but none of the buttons would respond. Long story, but in the end it turned out to be the lock mechanism was not sending a signal to the main board. Replaced that and it works again.

Hi @samatoid

Here’s the tech sheet for the washer.

Go to p.22 to view the wiring diagram.

If there are sparks at the plug when you connect it to the power then the diagram should help to find out where the problem is.

Once you have resolved that, go to p.11 to view the tests for a won’t power up problem.

Hopefully this is of some help.

Thanks very much! I did find that the link above to YouTube repair of this machine is highly likely to solve the problem. I can't believe Maytag couldn't take the trouble to better protect the electronics from corrosion! Was it intentional planned obsolescence or just negligence?

por

@samatoid

I wouldn't have thought that corrosion would cause sparks to occur when plugging in the power cord. The machine not showing any power yes, sparks no.

Corrosion usually creates an open circuit or a high resistance connection, not a short circuit.

Maybe its Maytag's business model - max profits for min outlay and don't worry about reputation ;-)

por

You are correct. I was able to clean off the corrosion and get it working again, but not get rid of the sparks. There probably is still a short somewhere. I am pretty new to trying fix electronics.

por

@samatoid

The tech sheet has the wiring diagram so you may be able to isolate where it is using it.

Good luck

So here is a couple tips from an owner of a maytag mvwb765fw….The cleaning procedure worked great!!!….however, I still had intermittent start up trouble…..So I took an eraser ( new, not an old golf pencil) worked heavily…..then followed up with alcohol……..I then bought a can of silicone lubricant (higher quality from Autozone) and squirted heavily the white lid latch…white part…I also squirted some on the connectors that I cleaned as mentioned above……..for good measure I squirted some of the silicone lube under each armpit for good measure (easy, joking hairbun) run and interrupted a drain and spin cycle several times…..in order to work in the silicone………..nine months ago…….never had a problem since.
