My Washer fills then does wash cycle , drains but does not fill again.

I only have one water source cold water. The first indication of trouble was it would not fill up with water. So I checked the filter screens, which were clean then I changed the water connection to the hot water input and selected hot water on the control panel. after this it filled normally. then washed one cycle and would not refill on it’s own.

I can fill washer with the garden hose at this point and it will continue the rinse cycle

You may have a problem with the cold water inlet solenoid in the washer.

Don't know your washer but on some when you select a hot water wash, on the wash (agitate) part of the cycle you get a hot water wash but not a hot water rinse which follows the wash, it is cold water. There may be only one wash type option (mostly wool wash -if you have it) that has a hot (or warm - hot and cold) rinse.

Check the user manual for your model to see what the rinse cycle temperatures are for each wash type option (regular, heavy, delicates etc) that you have.

If one of them has a hot (or warm) water rinse as part of the cycle try running that wash cycle with the water connected to the machine’s hot water inlet. If it fills for the rinse part of the cycle it points to a problem with the cold water solenoid.
