I recently replaced my screen for my iphone 6s but the screen is black. I did not remove the battery when replacing it but i did shut the phone off. I did notice a small puff of smoke coming out those ribbon cables when connecting the 3 cables back to the actual phone. I tried to put the old screen back but that did not work either, is there anything i can do to fix this?

Backlight filter is blown. It happens when screen is connected or disconnected while the battery is connected to the logic board.
You'll need to take the phone to a local reputable repair shop that does micro-soldering on iPhones to get it fixed.

How sure are you that, thats the issue?
i took the phone into a dark room and put another phones flashlight on the screen and it didnt show anything
100% sure because that's what always happens on the 6s when you see a puff of smoke near the screen connectors when you plug it in.
do you have and estimate of how much it would cost to fix ?
They start at around $80 or more. Most stores charge around that price.

By “puff of smoke”, do you mean dust? (That’s what I hope)
It maybe be a bad screen, the display connectors are damaged, or your motherboard died.
To check the motherboard, plug in the phone to a computer with iTunes, and see if it’s recognized. If not, you’re screwed.

I connect it and it recognizes it but it says error code 0xe800015, which im guessing is because i cannot unlock the phone because the screen wont work. What could i do ?
Well, it had to happen. I think you'll need to take it to a ship to get it repaired. Unfortunately, I don't know what to do, so best of luck to you, man!
