How to replace the cable that connects the display?

So I’ve been looking for a software solution to an issue with garbage colours appearing on my display when it comes back from sleep. A few minutes ago I realized that it actually happens based on the angle the lid is open (pretty much 100% when 90 degrees, it goes away as it is opened more or less from there, garbage colours get mixed in especially against black and grey,) so I expect the problem is a loose or damaged cable connecting the display to the logic board. I’ve ordered the replacement cable (I’m out of Apple Care) but it’s hard to make out from the photos in the teardown exactly where this cable is and how easy it is likely to be to replace. Anyone with any relevant experience or advice? I don’t want to open it up until I have the parts in hand and sort of assume screwdrivers are basically all I’ll need.

If you are talking about the reel cables inside the folding part of the hinge, they cannot be replaced, you have to replace the whole display assembly.

Sad but true! This is a design defect and you didn't cause it! It will cost you around $700 USD.

I would pay a visit to an Apple Store and push for a warranty exemption if your warranty has just lapsed. If you're really lucky they won't fight it. If they do push up the food chain be nice but firm.

Yikes, I thought I had an easy out when I saw the display cable on here (MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2016-2019) Display Cable) but now that I've rechecked the description I doubt that it's what I need. I wonder if there is a connector that might be loose and I may be able to pop back into place, either of you think that's worth a shot before I go to see apple? for 700 USD I may just get used to moving the hinge until the distortion goes away...

Edit: I googled around and found other reports of this issue and now know that there is no way to try and reseat anything. I'm going to contact Apple and see what they can do. Thanks to both of you who commented.

That cable that failed is from the LCD panel and the T-CON board. The cable you pointed to connects the T-CON board to the logic board and is not the one that fails
