MacBook Pro (Early 2015) Retina 13" Display Black Screen with Chime

We just received a macbook with a very vague problem, the macbook initially does nothing at all. But once the mousepad cable is removed from the motherboard, we get a chime a very dark apple logo but no backlight. We do get an image via HDMI on an external monitor.

There are no traces of water damage.

Who has seen this before?
