Found an old friends laptop that was water damaged a while ago. It turns on when connected to power although the screen doesn’t light up. When connected to another monitor- the screen works. Would replacing the logic board (and battery) be enough to fix the laptop?

@imacow. It is most likely that you do have a logic board issue. Since this is a water damaged MBA you will have residue etc. on the board and most likely shorted out either the display connector or the video circuitry. This would all be fixed by replacing the board. Isolated LCD damage with a fully functioning logicboard would be extremely rare for a water damaged device. Use these guides MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 to work on your MBA. Remove the logic board and clean everything with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Check for damaged components. If it turns on and works when connected running it through a second monitor, it sounds like the logic board isn’t the part that’s damaged. When you shine a light at the internal display, do you see anything being displayed, or is it completely black? It sounds like just the display is dead, which isn’t as bad as the logic board. It might be a good idea anyway to remove the logic board and look over it to make sure there isn’t any corrosion or other liquid damage on it before you use the computer more. Do you know how bad the liquid damage originally was or what happened to it?

Thanks for the reply. Apartment flooded and the laptop was a victim. How would the display be fixed?
Ah, that's pretty scary. I'd definitely recommend completely disassembling the computer and checking over all the parts, if it was fully submerged. It's a good idea to replace the battery, because water can make batteries dangerous. Here's the guide to replace the entire display assembly: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2013 Display Assembly Replacement
That part looks pretty expensive though. The LCD might be all that's broken, so if you can find one, and a guide to replace just that, you might be able to save some money, but the repair is going to be a lot harder than just replacing the entire display assembly. It would probably be a good idea to wipe down the logic board (you probably don't need to remove the heat sink, and I'd recommend that you don't, unless you want to deal with replacing the thermal paste) and any other boards with some isopropyl alcohol (preferably 90%+) with a lint free/microfiber cloth, to remove any corrosion or other damage.
Also, have you tested everything else on the computer, and it all works fine? The trackpad, every key on the keyboard, all the ports, etc?

You can get a more trustworthy and reliable battery from iFixit, and I also found a probably fine battery for super cheap on PowerBook Medic (the "Used" (not grade B) one):
Actually, I’m wrong. You should remove the heat sink and check and clean under that too (just make sure to reapply the thermal paste).
